This course has been designed for last year students in computer science (DAT8) at Aalborg University. When the course was to be described in the studyplan (studieordning), it was tentatively entitled "Nye teknologier inden for intelligente systemer (NIS) (Emerging Technologies in Intelligent Systems)". At that point, however, only very vague ideas about the concrete content of the course existed. In the making of its concrete content, I came across the magnificent book of Tom Mitchell's, entitled Machine Learning, which covered exactly the kind of topics that I had in mind. In retrospect, therefore, the title "Machine Learning" would be a more descriptive title for the course.
