Final version

The syllabus (dk: pensum) of Programming Paradigms, fall 2003, is the following:

• The functional paradigm:
  • The chapters 1-30 of Kurt Nørmark, Functional Programming in Scheme With Web Programming Examples as available from the PDF print page of the material.

  • It is expected that you are familiar with relevant parts of Revised(5) Report on the Algorithmic Language Scheme (PDF), more specifically the sections 1.1, 3.5, 4.1, 4.2.1, 4.2.2, 4.2.5, 4.2.6, 5.2, and 6.3 as referred from the teaching material.

• The logical paradigm:
  • The Art of Prolog, 2nd edition, Leon Sterling and Ehud Shapiro, chapters 1, 4, 5, 7, 11, 15, 17.

  • It is expected that you are familiar with the slides and execises from lecture 6 to 10, as used in the course.

• The object-oriented paradigm:

  The object-oriented paradigm has two main topics: Self and aspect-oriented programming (AOP) using AspectJ. The syllabus is:

  • Self: The Power of Simplicity by Randall B. Smith.

  • Parents are Shared Parts of Objects: Inheritance and Encapsulation in Self by Craig Chambers

  • Chapter 2 (except 2.4) in The Self 4.1 Programmer's Reference Manual

  • AOP: An Overview of AspectJ by Gregor Kiczales et al.

  • AOP: appendix B, Language Semantics, in The AspectJ Programming Guide.

  • All slides from lecture 11 to 15 are also part of the syllabus.

  The literature mentioned above is available in the course folder.
