Mr. Aleksandar Dimitrov Minister of Foreign Affairs ul. Dame Gruev br. 6 1000 Skopje Republic of Macedonia Dear Minister I am a lecturer at Aalborg University in Denmark. I am sending you this letter as I am deeply concerned by the lack of development in the case of the death of Sabri Asani from Aracinovo. On the night of 17/18 January 2000 the Macedonian police arrested Sabri Asani together with two other men. They were taken to Skopje; Sabri Asani was reportedly dead on arrival. Sabri Asani died in the custody of police officers. The full autopsy report has still not been made available to his family despite their requests. A video tape and a still photograph of Sabri AsaniÕs body taken shortly before his funeral indicate that he met a violent death while in the hands of the Macedonian police. I therefore ask Your Excellency to make the autopsy report public and to carry out a public and impartial investigation into the death of Sabri Asani. Moreover, I urge Your Excellency to ensure that those reponsible for the death of Sabri Asani are brought to justice. This principle should apply wherever such people happen to be, whereever the crime was committed, whatever the nationality of the perpetrators or victims and no matter how much time has elapsed since the crime was committed. Finally, I would like to express my best wishes for the current peace agreement in Macedonia; in particular I hope that it will soon be signed by all parties involved. This will contribute significantly to the reconciliation process. Yours sincerely
