Your Excellency,

I am a lecturer at Aalborg University in Denmark. I am sending you
this letter, as I am deeply concerned by the case of the death of
Sabri Asani from Aracinovo.

On the night of 17/18 January 2000 the Macedonian police arrested
Sabri Asani together with two other men. They were taken to Skopje;
Sabri Asani was reportedly dead on arrival.  Sabri Asani died in the
custody of police officers. A video tape and a still photograph of
Sabri Asani's body taken shortly before his funeral indicate that he
met a violent death while in the hands of the Macedonian police.

I have recently been informed by Mr Hari Kostov, Ministry of the
Interior, that the case has been investigated by the deputy police
prosecutor and an investigative judge.

I respectfully ask Your Excellency for details and outcome of this
investigation. 

I understand that an autopsy was performed at the Forensic Medicine
Institute. Has the autopsy report been made public?

Further, I urge that that those reponsible for the death of Sabri
Asani are brought to justice. This principle should apply wherever
such people happen to be, whereever the crime was committed, whatever
the nationality of the perpetrators or victims and no matter how much
time has elapsed since the crime was committed.
